The following "diagnosis" of the fish kill in Hood Canal was prepared by Dr. Jan
Newton, Principal Oceanographer at the University of Washington Applied Physics
Laboratory, synthesized from analysis by several scientists at UW working on the
Hood Canal Dissolved Oxygen Program Integrated Assessment and Modeling study.
This study and its observational network is funded from federal funds secured by
Congressman Norm Dicks, and leveraged by State, Tribal, and local resources.
